 | The Young Centaur is a famous grey-black marble sculpture from the Furietti Centaurs pair signed by the Aphrodisian sculptors Aristeas and Papias, dating to 117–138 AD. The Furietti Centaurs are a pair of dark grey marble statues of centaurs, discovered in 1736 at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli. The pair was carved from rare bigio morato marble from the Göktepe quarries in Caria (modern-day Turkey). They are modeled after an earlier Hellenistic bronze original and are now housed in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. | |
