Birthday invitation of Sulpicia Lepidina

Claudia Severa sent a birthday invitation to Sulpicia Lepidina (wife of Flavius Cerialis, prefect of the ninth Cohort of Batavians) on September 11 around 100 AD. She lived at the Vindolanda fort in Roman Britain. "On 11th September, sister, for the day of celebration of my birthday...I shall expect you, sister, my dearest soul, as I hope to prosper, and hail."

The ancient invitation includes Severa's own handwriting, making it one of the earliest known examples of Latin writing by a woman.
